 40 Days for Life

PITTSBURGH (LifeSiteNews) – A tissue procurement company linked to the University of Pittsburgh (UP) was recently caught on video at a Planned Parenthood facility in western Pennsylvania, calling into question the university’s insistence that it does not procure fetal remains from the abortion giant.

The pro-life Center for Medical Progress (CMP) reports that the Pittsburgh chapter of 40 Days for Life obtained video and photos of a car for the company Center for Organ Recovery and Education (CORE), which is a supplier for the university’s Health Sciences Tissue Bank, parked in the Planned Parenthood location’s driveway, with a man carrying what appeared to be specimen bags from the building and placing them in a cooler inside the vehicle.

“Something disturbing happened after my shift, a man in a CORE car (Center for Organ Recovery and Education) picked up several small plastic bags (of children, or their body parts, I’m assuming) and dropped one on the ground, but I couldn’t see what was in it,” says the 40 Days volunteer who witnessed and recorded the incident. “He then put them in a cooler in his car and drove away.”

A university representative told the Pennsylvania House of Representatives under oath last year that it “does not obtain fetal tissue from Planned Parenthood.”

“The University of Pittsburgh swore under oath that it did not harvest fetal organs from Planned Parenthood—so what is the University’s organ harvesting company doing parked at the Planned Parenthood abortion clinic with coolers?” asked CMP president David Daleiden. “The lies from Pitt and Planned Parenthood must stop now and elected officials in Pennsylvania must demand the truth.”

In April, Judicial Watch obtained documents revealing that UP’s Associate Senior Vice Chancellor for Science Strategy and Planning in the Health Sciences, Dr. Jeremy Berg, contacted then-National Institutes of Health (NIH) director Francis Collins for assistance in beating back “efforts to undermine important science using fetal tissue,” including its controversial “humanized mice” experiments.

The sale of aborted fetal remains for research and experimentation first came to the political forefront in 2015, when CMP began releasing undercover videos of meetings with Planned Parenthood and National Abortion Federation personnel detailing the practice, which set off a firestorm of controversy and a string of revelations about the abortion industry breaking multiple federal laws against profiting from human tissue, altering abortion procedures for the sake of procuring better tissue samples, and potentially even committing partial-birth abortions or infanticide; as well as video examples of abortion workers displaying callousness toward the humanity of the children their work killed.

The story first broke late in the second term of pro-abortion former President Barack Obama, meaning the abortion industry didn’t have to worry about a federal investigation. Late in 2017, the Justice Department under pro-life former President Donald Trump requested documents from the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee’s review of the case, which led many pro-lifers to hope Planned Parenthood would finally face justice. But no charges were ever brought, despite 67 members of Congress writing to the Trump administration in June 2019 demanding to know why no publicly-known actions had been taken since 2017.
