OMAHA, Dec 13, 2000 (LSN.ca) – The University of Nebraska, which set off a firestorm last year when it was one of the first US institutions exposed for using aborted baby parts in research, is receiving an award. News reports state “The University of Nebraska Board of Regents has been honored with the 2000 Academic Freedom Award for its opposition to legislation banning research on tissue from aborted fetuses.” The Academic Freedom Coalition of Nebraska presented the award to the board Saturday during a regents meeting.

LifeSite reported last year that the University was doing research on Alzheimer’s disease by using brain cells from aborted babies. The baby brains came to the university courtesy of abortionist LeRoy H. Carhart, who was later responsible for the Supreme Court decision favouring partial-birth abortions.
