SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 14, 2001 (LSN.ca) – The British woman who refused to abort one of the twins she was carrying – even though she was directed to do so by the California couple who contracted her to be a surrogate mother – has been flooded with requests to adopt the twins. Charles Wheeler and Martha Berman, both lawyers in the San Francisco area, said they have found a couple to adopt the twins Helen Beasley is carrying for them. However, since Beasley has hundreds of other requests to adopt the children, the California couple may not have their wishes granted.

The couple originally agreed to pay Beasley $20,000 (US) to be a surrogate mother. The London Independent reports that an initial payment of $1,000 (US) was received but when Beasley refused to abort one of the twins she was carrying, she was asked to reimburse the couple $80,000 (US) in expenses.
