MONTEVIDEO, December 16, 2002 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Uruguay’s lower chamber, controlled by the leftist Frente Amplio coalition, has voted to legalize abortion under 12 weeks gestation, based on the argument that women have the “right to decide over their body.” Coupled with the vote was an order that the Minister of Health provide mandatory contraceptive services through public hospitals. The debate now moves to Uruguay’s more conservative Senate for approval.  Meanwhile, Argentina is set to recognize homosexual civil unions.  For newswire coverage see:  https://english.pravda.ru/main/2002/12/12/40700.html   For other regional developments see:  COLOMBIA APPROVES ABORTIFACIENT MORNING AFTER PILL https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2001/nov/01111903.html ARGENTINE BISHOPS WARN AGAINST ‘REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH’  https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2000/aug/00081805.html MASSIVE COERCIVE STERILIZATION IN PERU UNDER U.N.
