ATLANTA, Dec 4 (LSN)  Yesterday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported there were 1,221,585 babies aborted legally in the U.S. 1996, an increase of over 10,000 from the 1995 figure of 1,210,883. The government’s numbers indicate that one in fifty women of childbearing age had an abortion, which is down from one in forty women during the 1980’s. There were 314 babies aborted for every 1,000 born alive.  The statistics indicate that 12 per cent, or about 150,000 babies, were aborted after the third month of their development. Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (1998;47:1025-1028,1035) noted that most women who obtained abortions were white, unmarried, and over 18 years old.  U.S. pro-lifers note that the CDC typically underreports abortion numbers since the CDC relies on state health departments and other agencies to voluntarily report data without actually soliciting information from every abortion facility.  For a more accurate tabulation of abortions through the years go to the educational section of Roe v.  Wade: 25 Years of Life Denied at:  https://www.prolife.org/rvw
