WASHINGTON, June 25, 2002 (LSN.ca) – South African politicians say the American charity “Lovelife,” which claims to be dedicated to combatting HIV-AIDS, encourages teenagers to engage in oral sex.  Lovelife says preaching abstinence is a waste of time because the HIV crisis is so dire in South Africa, where over 50 percent of citizens engage in sex by their 16th birthday. As a strategy, the group claims to believe promoting teen oral sex will “save lives.”  Lovelife is funded in the U.S. by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which alone has provided over $7 million to the group), and the Kaiser Family Foundation. In South Africa, it has the blessing of the wife of President Thabo Mbeki, who himself doubts the linkage between AIDS and HIV, and questions whether AIDS is the country’s leading cause of death.  “In South Africa, there is very little for kids to do after school,” said Judith DeSarno, president and CEO of the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association. Thanks to U.S. plutocrats that promote oral sex, DeSarno enthuses, “There’s massive computer training. There’s basketball programs … And coupled with that is this information of if you’re going to be sexually active, please, please do something that will not kill you.”  For Fox News coverage see: https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,55947,00.html   For BBC News coverage of President Mbeki’s approach to AIDS see: https://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/world/africa/newsid_1556000/1556715.stm   For previous LifeSite coverage of USAID sex-based strategies see: https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2002/jun/02061702.html
