WASHINGTON, D.C. (LifeSiteNews) – Chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, Archbishop of Baltimore William E. Lori, has penned an official condemnation of U.S. President Joe Biden’s pro-abortion executive order but made no mention of Biden’s supposed Catholic faith or canon 915, which teaches that public figures who persist in obstinate grave sin ought not to receive Holy Communion.

“In response to the Dobbs decision, I called for the healing of wounds and repairing of social divisions, for reasoned reflection and civil dialogue, and for coming together to build a society and economy that supports marriages and families, and where every woman has the support and resources she needs to bring her child into this world in love,” opened Lori in his Saturday letter.

“And as religious leaders, we pledged ourselves to continue our service to God’s great plan of love for the human person, and to work with our fellow citizens to fulfill America’s promise to guarantee the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all people,” added the bishop.

After the recapping the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade last month, Lori took the time to lament the pro-abortion executive order signed by Biden, who is a self-professed Catholic and regularly receives Holy Communion, on Friday.

It is deeply disturbing and tragic that President Biden is choosing instead to use his power as President of the United States to promote and facilitate abortion in our country, seeking every possible avenue to deny unborn children their most basic human and civil right, the right to life. Rather than using the power of the executive branch to increase support and care to mothers and babies, the president’s executive order seeks only to facilitate the destruction of defenseless, voiceless human beings,” stated Lori.

“I implore the president to abandon this path that leads to death and destruction and to choose life. As always, the Catholic Church stands ready to work with this Administration and all elected officials to protect the right to life of every human being and to ensure that pregnant and parenting mothers are fully supported in the care of their children before and after birth,” concluded the bishop, who made no mention of denying Biden Holy Communion.

As reported by LifeSiteNews, in response to the June 24 decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to upend Roe v. Wade, Biden signed an executive order July 8 promoting abortion on demand up until the moment of birth.

In a fact sheet regarding the new order, the Oval Office said it would direct the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to protect and expand access to “medication abortion” while also ordering the Attorney General and the White House Counsel to “convene private pro bono attorneys, bar associations, and public interest organizations” to provide legal counsel for women seeking abortions and doctors committing abortions.

The White House statement also reiterated that immediately following the Supreme Court decision, the Biden administration promised to fight any “attack by a state or local official who attempts to interfere with women exercising this right.”

Biden’s executive order will establish an “Interagency Task Force,” which “will provide technical assistance to states affording legal protection to out-of-state patients as well as providers who offer legal reproductive health care.”

“The President has asked the Chair of the Federal Trade Commission to consider taking steps to protect consumers’ privacy when seeking information about and provision of reproductive health care services,” the fact sheet continues. “The President also has directed the Secretary of HHS, in consultation with the Attorney General and Chair of the FTC, to consider options to address deceptive or fraudulent practices, including online, and protect access to accurate information.”
