CHICAGO, July 5, 2001 (LSN.ca) – An important statement made recently by U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde about pulling the United States out of the United Nations was largely ignored by the media. Republicans for Fair Media (RFM News) reported last month that at a June 9 conservative conference Hyde answered a series of questions about America’s membership in the United Nations.

Referring to House Resolution 1146, sponsored by Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) which would essentially call for the United States to end its membership in the United Nations, Hyde said, “As Chairman of the International Relations Committee, I don’t think it’s appropriate for me to sponsor it, but I would vote for it.” RFM News reported that Hyde’s statement was met by a round of thunderous applause from the conservative gathering.
