WASHINGTON, May 30, 2002 (LSN.ca) – In a victory for pro-lifers, the US House has passed a Supplemental Appropriations Bill which was stripped of UNFPA funding language.
After pro-lifers in the US led by the Population Research Institute pointed out to the Bush administration the involvement of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) with China’s coercive abortion regime, the administration withheld $34 million in UNFPA designated funds. Language in the original Appropriations bill would have forced President Bush to release the UNFPA funds. The House passed the bill Friday without the UNFPA language in a vote of 280-138.
