CALIFORNIA COURT PROTECTS PATIENT FROM END-OF-LIFE DECISION Yesterday California’s supreme court ruled “that families have no right to stop life support for conscious patients who are not terminally ill, and who have not left explicit instructions allowing them to do so or formally appointed anyone to make health care decisions in the event of incapacity,” reported the New York Times. The case involved a man who was left brain-damaged after an auto accident in 1993. Two years later his wife asked the doctors to remove his feeding tubes.
