TORONTO, June 18, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Don Wildmon, head of the American Family Association, said the Canadian government’s decision to not appeal the homosexual ‘marriage’ ruling should serve as a wake-up call for Americans. He stressed that the average American has no idea what impact the Canadian decision will have in the U.S. “The audacity of gay activists in that country—and the swiftness with which those changes are occurring—is a real cause for alarm here in the U.S.,” he says, noting he expects an influx of American homosexual couples into Canadian provinces to get married. He anticipates that many of those couples will use their new status to challenge state laws that do not recognize same-sex unions. Family Research Council (FRC) President Ken Connor said of Prime Minister Chretien’s decision, “What’s happening in Canada is a warning to America.” Referring to the traditional institution of marriage Connor noted, “as a member of the Canadian parliament put it, a 5,000-year-old institution that is the best arrangement for raising and nurturing children is being systematically deconstructed”.
