NEW YORK, October 14, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The United States has declined to take part in a group of 250 world figures urging the UN to implement its population control programme in the guise of women’s rights.

Released on Wednesday, a statement committed the UN “to an action plan to ensure universal access to reproductive health information and services, uphold fundamental human rights including sexual and reproductive rights, alleviate poverty, secure gender equality, and protect the environment.”  Ted Turner, noted for his promotion of the UN’s frequently coercive population control policies, read the statement at a news conference. The statement was signed by 85 prime ministers and presidents, including those from all 25 European Union nations as well as China, Japan, Indonesia, Pakistan, Peru and a dozen African countries.

After much criticism of its support for China’s draconian one-child policy and revelations of human rights abuses in its own programmes of sterilization, the UNFPA is attempting to improve its public image by a change in language. No longer promoting the reduction of population per se, it now emphasizes ‘women’s education,’ ‘health care’ and ‘family planning.’ But such terms as ‘family planning’ have already been revealed to be euphemisms for abortion, sterilization and birth control.

The US delegation’s refusal to participate in the promotion of the latest statement was based on objections to the term “sexual rights,” which had no “agreed definition,” a State Department letter said.  The UN is cutting back on its schedule of international conferences due to successful organized opposition to its population policies, especially since the implementation of dramatic U.S. policy reversals immediately following the defeat of the pro-population control Clinton administration.  UN bureaucrats say they will concentrate on individual countries where their activities will not be open to as much public scrutiny.  See part of LifeSiteNews.com’ extensive coverage of UNFPA population control actvities:  UNFPA Admits to Using “Catholic” Dissident Groups to Further its Population Agenda https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2004/jun/04060404.html   Embargo of US Funding for UNFPA Continues https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2004/jan/04012909.html   Chinese Woman Who Underwent Forced Abortion Accuses UNFPA https://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2002/jan/02012403.html   ph
