WASHINGTON, Jan 7 (LSN)—Chicago-area scientist Richard Seed announced Tuesday that he is ready to start experiments on cloning humans.  Seed told National Public Radio (NPR), “It is my objective to set up a Human Clone Clinic in greater Chicago, make it a profitable fertility clinic, and when it is profitable to duplicate it in 10 or 20 other locations around the country and maybe five or six international.”  NPR said Seed had been negotiating with a Chicago-area clinic, which it declined to name, which had all the equipment needed to try the procedure.  Although several European states have advised a ban on the procedure, President Clinton has resisted a complete ban and proposed a meager partial ban for five years. While this weak legislation is pending, there is a US ban on using federal funds to clone humans.  However,  it was left up to the private sector to voluntarily refrain from it.
