WASHINGTON, May 26, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The United States Senate overwhelmingly approved a $400 billion defense bill by 98 to 1. Significantly, both the House and Senate narrowly defeated amendments that would have allowed enlisted women to have abortions on military bases, even if they paid for their baby’s abortion themselves.

Feminists have long pushed for legitimization of abortions on military bases, a symbolic issue as women have been performing an increasing number of functions in the U.S. military.
