LONDONDERRY, Ireland, October 10, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Women in Northern Ireland’s Londonderry and Belfast joined in a powerful witness to the devastation caused by abortion last weekend, standing with US pro-life advocate Georgette Forney in a rally giving voice to women who regret having an abortion.

Forney was in Northern Ireland to address the issue of abortion, the Belfast Telgraph reported. The co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, Forney had an abortion at the age of 16.

“It is my hope that, regardless of how you feel about abortion, you will listen to what we have to say and consider whether women deserve better than abortion.”

Local women walked through the streets alongside Forney, carrying signs with the Campaign’s message saying, ‘I Regret My Abortion.’

“I have traveled from America to stand alongside women from Northern Ireland because I want other women who can relate to our pain to hear about the hope and help we have found,” Forney said.

“These women have decided to speak publicly of their personal experiences in the hope that other women who have had an abortion will know that they are not alone and help is available to them.”

Forney met with MP Jeffrey Donaldson, a member of the Democratic Unionist Party, to discuss the abortion situation. Common law in Northern Ireland permits abortion at any point during pregnancy only if the life, mental or physical health of the mother are at serious risk.
