WASHINGTON, October 15, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) – On Tuesday, the United States Supreme Court agreed to hear the infamous Ninth Circuit case involving the constitutionality of reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools. The Ninth Circuit justified declaring it unconstitutional on grounds that the mention of God in the Pledge of Allegiance violates the Establishment Clause of the United States Constitution. The Pacific Justice Institute has announced that it will file an amicus brief in defense of the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools.  “We are committed to stand up to the outrageous decision by the Ninth Circuit,” said Brad Dacus, president of the Pacific Justice Institute. “We are already in the process of preparing to file a brief that will make it very clear to the majority of the Supreme Court that the mention of the word “God” in the Pledge of Allegiance is not a violation of the Constitution.  Groups which support religious freedom are concerned about one development in the case however.  Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has rescued himself from the case.  Scalia is known as the greatest defender of religious freedom among the nine justices.
