WASHINGTON, January 10, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The US Supreme Court rejected an appeal by four Florida men Monday, leaving in place the state law banning homosexuals from adopting children. The rejection of the appeal was without comment.  Florida is the only state with a complete ban against same-sex adoption, but the refusal by the Supreme Court opens the door for other states to enact similar legislation.

Florida Governor Jeb Bush defended the government position, arguing that it is in the best interest of children to have both a mother and a father. “It is rational to believe that children need male and female influences to develop optimally, particularly in the areas of sexual and gender identity, and heterosexual role modeling,” Florida’s attorney, Casey Walker, wrote in his filing, as reported by thewmurchannel.com.

The men lost an appeal launched at the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta last year.
