(LifeSiteNews) — The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) announced the tentative agenda for its upcoming Spring Plenary Assembly on Monday that will include discussing the implementation of the Synod on Synodality, revising a charter protecting young people from abuse, a presentation of a new edition of the lectionary for Mass, and the consecration of the nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

In its May 18 announcement, the USCCB said that during the June 10-12 Plenary Assembly in Orlando, the bishops plan to discuss the implementation of the synod and review the “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.” Notably, the Committee on Divine Worship will also present the bishops with elements of a new edition of the “Lectionary for Mass and the 2025 Roman Missal-Liturgy of the Hours Supplement” for their approval.

Additionally, as previously reported by LifeSiteNews, on June 11, the bishops will consecrate America to Our Lord’s Sacred Heart.

In its release, the USCCB stressed that the proposed changes to the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, written in 2002, will align with the conference’s “continued commitment” to preventing clerical abuse.

“The proposed revisions align with the Charter’s original intention of safeguarding minors and underscores the bishops’ continued commitment to addressing the prevention of abuse and ensuring the structures continue to be in place to respond to allegations,” the USCCB said.

Despite this “continued commitment,” numerous American bishops (and indeed the USCCB) have long faced allegations of covering up sexual abuse. In 2025, Rachel Mastrogiacomo, a survivor of clerical ritual abuse, wrote an open letter to President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and each of the Catholic senators and members of Congress, calling their attention to the bishops’ alleged cover-up of abuse and aiding of illegal immigration.

The bishops’ discussion on the synod comes as the synodal process has faced increased scrutiny in recent weeks after the publication of a synod study group’s final report on “doctrinal, pastoral and ethical questions” that falsely suggested that homosexual relationships may not be sinful.

Other discussions during the assembly will include feedback on the bishops’ “fraternal dialogues” at the November 2025 plenary assembly titled “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship,” the USCCB’s involvement with the Intercontinental Guadalupan Novena, World Youth Day 2027 in South Korea, Catholic prison ministry, and a presentation on the 25th anniversary of the implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae, Pope John Paul II’s apostolic constitution on Catholic colleges and universities in the U.S.

In addition to these discussions, the USCCB will consecrate the country to Our Lord’s Sacred Heart during a special Mass. Before the Mass, which will be livestreamed, some of the bishops will offer reflections on the devotion. The USCCB also encouraged the faithful to participate in the commemoration of America’s semiquincentennial by offering 250 Hours of Eucharistic adoration and/or 250 Works of Mercy.

The public sessions of the assembly on June 10 and 11 will be livestreamed on the conference’s website.
