VATICAN DISCIPLINES DISSIDENT MINISTRY TO HOMOSEXUALS

ROME, July 14 (LSN) – The Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on Tuesday released a notification condemning the founders of a Washington based so-called “Catholic” ministry to homosexuals called “New Ways Ministry.” Sr. Jeannine Gramick and Fr. Robert Nugent, who founded the group over 20 years ago, were urged to bring their teachings on homosexuality in line with the Catholic Church.

The founders repeatedly refused to assent to the Church’s teaching regarding “the intrinsic evil of homosexual acts and the objective disorder of the homosexual inclination.”

The Vatican notification read in part: “The ambiguities and errors of the approach of Father Nugent and Sister Gramick have caused confusion among the Catholic people and have harmed the community of the Church. For these reasons, Sister Jeannine Gramick, S.S.N.D., and Father Robert Nugent, S.D.S., are permanently prohibited from any pastoral work involving homosexual persons and are ineligible, for an undetermined period, for any office in their respective religious institutes.”
