BUENOS AIRES, October 9, 2002 (LSN.ca) – The Canadian Catholic Civil Rights League (CCRL) has written the Canadian Minister of International Cooperation to complain about a Canadian registered charity which is attempting to infiltrate Catholic dioceses in Argentina despite being pro-abortion.

Zenit News from Rome reported that Cardinal Alfonso López Trujillo, president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, sent a note warning Archbishop Estanislao Esteban Karlic, president of the Argentine bishops’ conference that the Canadian Child Care Federation (CCCF) is trying to make inroads in several dioceses.  The cardinal said the Canadian group works with the International Planned Parenthood Federation, a leading abortion provider.  “We ask that this charitable organization ‘Canadian Child Care Federation’ (# 106844 355 RR0001) be investigated for bringing Canadians into disrepute in Argentina.  It is also causing an international embarrassment to Canadian Catholics,” wrote CCRL president Dr. Thomas Langan.  “When the Vatican must intervene into a situation where a Canadian organization is seeking support from Catholic dioceses for programs and services which are clearly in opposition to Catholic teachings, there is clearly a matter of governmental and international concern.”  The concerns of the Vatican are made manifest by a perusal of the Child and Family Canada resources, which are managed by CCCF.  One of the resources promotes the abortifacient morning after pill, claiming falsely that the drugs cannot cause an abortion.  Concluding his letter to Minister Susan Whelan, Dr. Langan wrote, “We request a commitment on behalf of your ministry to investigate the persons and organization responsible for this affair. Canadian groups clearly misrepresenting the ideals that Canada has worked hard to achieve must be held accountable for their actions.”  See the Zenit News coverage:  https://zenit.org/english/visualizza.phtml?sid=26120   See the CCCF managed Child and Family Canada resource on MAP:  https://www.cfc-efc.ca/docs/unknown/00001332.htm
