WASHINGTON, D.C., April 25, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Family Research Council has released security footage of the attempted terrorist attack on its headquarters by a homosexual activist last August.

The video shows FRC employee Leo Johnson being shot in the arm and wrestling the gun away from Floyd Lee Corkins II before he could carry out his plot.

“In an age when it seems heroes are hard to come by, it’s stirring to see a genuine hero in action,” FRC wrote on its blog today.

Police found Corkins with 100 rounds of ammunition and a list of four socially conservative organizations he hoped to target because of their opposition to same-sex “marriage” and the gay rights agenda.

In video footage released earlier today, Corkins told the FBI he used the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) list of allegedly anti-gay “hate groups” to choose his victims.

Leo Johnson – whom FRC President Tony Perkins refers to as “Leo the Hero” – is buildings operations manager at the pro-family group’s D.C. headquarters, a position that secondarily involves providing security. When a hate-filled gunman showed up with a handgun and 15 Chick-fil-A boxes, Johnson was the first person in his sights.

“The trajectory of the round was such that, had Leo not ducked, it would have hit him in the head,” Perkins told the Values Voters Summit in Washington, D.C., last September. “The second round hit him in the arm, completely disabling his left arm.”

Johnson gained control of the gun after Corkins' third shot missed. In the heat of the moment, he considered killing Corkins in the lobby.

“The thought approached me for a moment whether or not I shoot him, not knowing what he might do, but in that moment the Lord spoke to me saying don’t shoot him,” Johnson told Perkins after the shooting.

Johnson received an award at the annual Values Voters Summit, which is sponsored by FRC.

Corkins entered the organization's front office on August 15 intending to “kill as many as possible and smear the Chick-fil-A sandwiches in victims' faces, and kill the guard,” he told the FBI.

He hoped the slaughter would “make a statement against the people who work in that building.”

“This organization…how did you find it earlier?” an investigator asks Corkins in video released today. “Did you look it up online?”

“Southern Poverty Law lists anti-gay groups,” Corkins replies. “I found them online, did a little research, went to the website – stuff like that.”

“Leo Johnson’s heroism saved countless lives that day,” said FRC today. “Now you can see the never-before released security footage that shows just how quickly tragedy was averted.”

The group is asking viewers to share this video withtheir  friends in order to pay tribute to “a true hero.”
