ROMANIA (LifeSiteNews) — Hungary’s prime minister Viktor Orbán has warned that the war in Ukraine cannot be won against Russia, and given its disastrous outcomes on Europe it has the potential to end Western supremacy and “create a multipolar world order.”

Speaking at the Baile Tusnad Summer University in Romania’s Transylvania region, Orbán who won a landslidereelection in April, said it was “absolutely clear” that “Ukraine will never win the war against Russia with American training personnel and weapons, quite simply because the Russian army has asymmetrical dominance.”

Illustrating his point from the European perspective, he said “we are sitting in a car that has flat tires on all four wheels.”

“A new strategy is needed which should focus not on winning the war, but instead on peace talks,” he said. And the role of the European Union (EU) must now be to avoid taking sides between Russia and Ukraine, but “stand between” them to help facilitate peace, Orbán added.

Only “Russian-U.S. talks can put an end to the conflict because Russia wants security guarantees” that only Washington can provide, he said.

According to the 59-year-old prime minister, “the second fact we have to face up to is that the sanctions are not weakening Moscow,” and, as a result, “Europe is in trouble, in economic trouble, but politically too,” he said.

Earlier this month Orbán explained that the E.U. had “shot itself in the lungs” with counter-productive sanctions against Russia which risk enormous damage to the bloc’s own economy.

As Reuters reported, “Gas supplies to Europe have tightened and fuel costs have soared since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February and subsequent sanctions, leaving countries scrambling to refill storage and diversify supply channels.”

“Initially, I thought we had only shot ourselves in the foot, but now it is clear that the European economy has shot itself in the lungs, and it is gasping for air,” Orbán said in a radio interview.

He also warned that with the world “demonstrably not with us,” the conflict has the potential to end Western supremacy and “create a multi-polar world order.”

“The more the West sends powerful weapons, the more the war drags on,” he complained.

The populist politician also implicitly blamed Western leaders for the war, stating that had Donald Trump still been the U.S. president, and Angela Merkel the Chancellor of Germany, “this war would have never broken out.”
