(LifeSiteNews) — The Democrat nominee for attorney general in Virginia has sent disturbing text messages containing violent fantasies to a colleague in the state legislature.
Jay Jones indicated in messages to fellow delegate Carrie Coyner that he thought Republican Todd Gilbert deserved death more than murderous dictators Hitler and Pol Pot did and that he wished that the legislator’s children would die in his wife’s arms.
“Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy,” argued Jones in his unhinged rant. He wrote also that Gilberts were “breeding little fascists.”
The alarming 2022 text exchange was shared by National Review’s Audrey Fahlberg, who broke the story.
Revelations about the troubling text exchange in the increasingly “blue” state may flip Virginia’s current gubernatorial and attorney general races in Republicans’ favor. Many are calling for Jones to drop out of the race, leaving Republican incumbent AG Jason Miyares virtually unopposed.
“This is horrible to read and should be wholly disqualifying of someone running for an office that protects the people of Virginia,’ said Winsome Earle-Sears, GOP candidate for governor, who until now has trailed behind her Democrat opponent, Abigail Spanberger.
“Jay Jones’ horrific comments are a symptom of the entire Democratic Party, and his running mate, Abigail Spanberger, needs to call on him to drop out,” said Earle-Sears.

The Republican candidate quickly followed up with a second statement on X:
Jay Jones wished death on children and fantasized about killing people.
Abigail Spanberger’s response was empty—she condemned the rhetoric but stopped short of saying what any serious leader would: Jay Jones must drop out.
Her response is simply not good enough.

“This violent, disgusting rhetoric targeted at an elected official and his children is beyond disqualifying,” declared the current Governor of Virginia, Republican Glenn Youngkin.
“Jay Jones said that ‘Gilbert gets two bullets to the head’ and then hoped his children would die. Read those words again,” urged Youngkin.
“There is no ‘gosh, I’m sorry’ here. Jones doesn’t have the morality or character to drop out of this race, and his running mates Abigail Spanberger, Ghazala Hashmi, and every elected Democrat in Virginia don’t have the courage to call on him to step away from this campaign in disgrace,” added Youngkin.

Virginia Republican Delegate Geary Higgins unleashed a short, damning litany against Democrats in response to the troubling text revelations:
They shot the President.
They killed Charlie Kirk.
They threatened to kill Kim Taylor.
They said they’d kill ME at my next rally, then my kids.
“Now we learn Jay Jones repeatedly said he wanted to kill Speaker Todd Gilbert. Is this what ‘letting your rage fuel you’ looks like?” asked Higgins.

Jay Jones’ initial public apology was viewed as a non-apology, even by leftist The Washington Post. Instead, Jones maligned National Review and attempted to blame his GOP opponent and President Trump:
Like all people, I’ve sent text messages that I regret and I believe that violent rhetoric has no place in our politics. Let’s be clear about what is happening in the Attorney General race right now: Jason Miyares is dropping smears through Trump-controlled media organizations to assault my character and rescue his desperate campaign. This is a strategy that ensures Jason Miyares will continue to be accountable to Donald Trump, not the people of Virginia. This race is about whether Trump can control Virginia or Virginians control Virginia.
“This may qualify as the worst crisis response ever,” wrote the GOP’s Matt Whitlock.
“Instead of apologizing he lashes out about ‘political smears,” he continued. “Jay Jones shouldn’t just drop out, he should be evaluated as a sociopath.”
“This is how dangerously radicalized the Democrat Party has become,” noted Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, Stephen Miller. “This is who they are installing as the judges, prosecutors and attorneys general who sit in judgment over you. They will not hesitate to hurt you while freeing the most violent monsters.”

“Jay Jones is the worst of the worst. Democrats must stop calling Republicans fascist; this is exactly the kind of rhetoric that the Left is using to tear this country apart,” said Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) Executive Director Adam Piper. “Conservatives are being executed for their beliefs, and text messages like these are part of the problem. Virginia deserves far better.”
Democrat Jay Jones has been endorsed by pro-abortion advocates for his relentless support for both abortion and contraception.
Jones’ opponent, incumbent Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares, and the GOP’s candidate for Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears, have received a full endorsement from the National Right to Life Committee.
“MAGA Miyares,” as Democrats have referred to him, has repeatedly tried to defund Planned Parenthood and has called the overturning of Roe v. Wade “good and reasonable.”
