FORSYTH COUNTY, Georgia, June 26, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) — Newly released footage from a police body camera shows a deputy discovering and saving a newborn baby girl who was abandoned in a plastic bag in the woods.

“Look how precious you are,” the police officer can be heard saying as he wraps the baby in a camouflage-style jacket.

“She’s a sweetheart. She’s a sweetheart,” the officer says as an EMT tends to her. The first responders wrap her in blankets.

The baby still has blood and bodily fluids on her, presumably from childbirth.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office named her India, and officials said they released the footage “in hopes to receive credible information on the identity of Baby India and to show how important it is to find closure in this case.”

“We are happy to report that Baby India is thriving and is in the care of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services,” they posted on Facebook.

Kayla Ragatz, one of the residents who found Baby India, said they thought at first they were hearing an animal in the woods.

We “grabbed our flashlights and we’re driving around and we’re, like, ‘That doesn't sound like an animal,’” Ragatz told WSB.

“We heard it from our house,” a man says in the police video. “[My kid] said it’s a baby, I said it’s an animal.”

Georgia police ask that anyone with information on Baby India call their anonymous tip line at 770-888-7308.

Georgia has a “Safe Haven” law that allows babies up to 30 days old to be left at hospitals, fire stations, and police stations without prosecution.
