July 19, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Friends of well-known pro-life and pro-family blogger and activist Thomas Peters have launched a website where supporters can follow his recovery following a swimming accident earlier this week that left him in critical condition. (Click here to view the website)

Peters, the creator of the popular American Papist blog and media director for the National Organization for Marriage, fractured his fifth cervical vertebra on Tuesday evening while diving.

News of his injury quickly rocketed around social media Wednesday morning, leading to an outpouring of sympathy and prayer from around the globe.

In a message yesterday evening, Peters' father, canon lawyer Ed Peters, wrote on his Facebook page: “Judging from emails and texts from around the world, I think the sun never sets on someone somewhere praying for Thom's recovery.”

Peters has since shown considerable signs of improvement. While there were initially fears of possible paralysis, he has been able to move both his arms and legs, and is mentally alert, with no concerns about long-term mental effects from his injuries.

On Friday afternoon, doctors installed a device call a “halo” that will stabilize Peters' spine during the recovery period. Physical therapy was also slated to begin Friday evening.

In a FAQ, the new website explains that a fund is being set up where supporters will be able to donate to help Peters and his wife cover the expenses they will be facing in the months to come.

However, it adds, “In the meantime, please continue to pray. Thomas and Natalie's needs are being taken care of right now. The most substantial thing we can do is pray.”
