May 1, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Troy Newman has been the president of Operation Rescue since 1999. One of America’s most well known pro-life groups, Operation Rescue is headquartered at a former abortion clinic in Wichita, Kansas. Its goal is to bring abortionists to justice and to shut down their centers of operation.

“The only way we can determine whether or not we're closer to ending this holocaust of our time is the number of babies being saved and the number of abortion mills closing down,” Newman tells Jonathan van Maren in the most recent episode of The Van Maren Show (listen below).

Newman, 53, got involved in the pro-life fight in the early 1990s after seeing a photo of aborted babies. It struck a nerve. “Children are dying!” he tells van Maren. And so he went “on this crusade to tell everybody” about it. “If you want to change the world show them a picture of an aborted baby.”

Newman and van Maren discuss his involvement in the pro-life fight and the impact it’s had on his family. Newman reveals that his wife wrote him a letter asking, “do not make me compete with the lives of dead babies.” He explains that there is an urgency to defend the unborn, but that pro-lifers can focus on it to the neglect of other areas of their life. “Very little of what I do during the day or for the pro-life movement is brought home and I think that that's critical to the success of my marriage.”

Newman spent roughly 8 years of his life working to close down infamous late-term abortionist George Tiller’s Wichita clinic during the 2000s. Tiller was murdered by a gunman in 2009. Newman tells van Maren about the time he spent there and the different tactics he used in order to close down Tiller’s office. “The murderer took all the momentum away,” said Newman, adding that pro-life efforts were almost at the point of “shutting down” Tiller's mill.

Optimistic and confident about pro-life efforts today, Newman tells van Maren he sees a day coming soon when abortion will be no more in America. In 1991 “there were two thousand one hundred and seventy-six murder mills in the United States…today that number is down to seven hundred and one. That’s a reduction of 68 percent of the number of baby killing centers.”

“I can't wait for that glorious day when every child is protected under the law.”
