OTTAWA, Ontario, September 24, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Last week, Canada’s national pro-life organization released an Action Alert tool that allowed Canadians to urge all 308 members of Parliament to vote in favor of Stephen Woodworth’s Motion 312 with the click of the mouse. But the lobbying tool was so successful that it shut down the organization’s server, forcing them to deactivate the tool.

“Thousands of people used our very cool one-click tool to lobby their MP prior to the September 21st debate and leading up to the vote,” said Jack Fonseca of Campaign Life Coalition (CLC) to LifeSiteNews.

Fonseca said that the use of the online tool was so “wildly popular” over a relatively short period of time that CLC’s server could not handle the load.

“We received reports from MPs that their inboxes were inundated with emails in support of M-312. We are convinced the online Action Alert campaign made MPs stand up and take notice of the popular support for Woodworth’s motion.”

Despite having to prematurely take down the Action Alert tool, Campaign Life Coalition is continuing to urge pro-lifers across the country to keep on asking MPs to support M-312.

“It’s important that pro-lifers across the country once again contact their Member of Parliament and ask that this common sense motion be passed and sent to committee,” said Jim Hughes, president of Campaign Life Coalition.

Conservative MP Steven Woodworth’s M-312 proposes to establish a special committee to re-examine section 223 of Canada’s Criminal Code, which stipulates that a baby only becomes a ‘human being’ after the moment of complete birth. The committee would also examine the evidence for granting ‘humanity’ to the unborn.

The motion is vehemently opposed by all party leaders.

“Why are MPs afraid of discussing when human life begins?” said Hughes. “What are they afraid that they will find out?”

Hughes criticized MPs opposed to the motion as “Neanderthals” who refuse to re-examine Canada’s 400-year-old law about when human life begins in the light of modern science.

“Are these the people you want to represent you when they are afraid of even discussing a simple thing as when human life begins?,” said Hughes.
