MADISON, Wisconsin, April 3, 2018 (LifeSiteNews) – Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker has signed legislation excluding abortion from state employee health insurance plans.
Walker signed Assembly Bill 128 into law Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. It prohibits the state’s Group Insurance Board from contracting with or providing any insurance plan that offers abortions, except in cases of rape, incest, or to save a mother’s life. Existing plans said that only “medically necessary” abortions could be covered, but the law did not define what “medically necessary” meant.
“Pro-Life Wisconsin is grateful to Governor Walker for signing into law a bill that respects the consciences of Wisconsin taxpayers who oppose public funding of abortion,” Pro-Life Wisconsin State Director Dan Miller said in a press release. “Government must not force us to participate in the killing of our preborn brothers and sisters with our state tax dollars.”
“We thank Governor Walker and Assembly and Senate Republicans for persevering in their ongoing effort to end taxpayer funding of abortion in our state,” Pro-Life Wisconsin Legislative Director Matt Sande said.
“We especially thank the bill’s authors, Senator Dave Craig and Representatives André Jacque, Ron Tusler and Janel Brandtjen. We must fully end taxpayer funding of abortion in Wisconsin. It’s bad enough that child killing is legal. At the very least, taxpayers should not be forced to fund it,” he added.
