MONTREAL, January 8, 2002 (LSN.ca) – A Quebec woman has launched a $90,000 law suit against two doctors since they did not detect her pregnancy despite five visits to the clinic, one less than a month before she gave birth to her 7 1/2 pound daughter. The Montreal Gazette reports that the woman’s lawyer, Jean-Pierre Menard, says that the doctors’ files verified the woman’s reports. The woman said that she would have had an abortion had she known she was pregnant.

The daughter is now three years old. “The mother now loves her child, and things are going well,” Menard said. Her irregular menstrual cycles and her lack of weight gain during the pregnancy were given as the reasons why the mother failed to recognize she was pregnant. The doctors who examined her found nothing abnormal.
