BROOKLYN, New York, January 28, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A New York woman has pleaded guilty to assault this week after tricking her husband’s mistress into taking abortion medication in a failed attempt to kill her unborn child.
After learning that her husband’s mistress was pregnant, Kisha Jones, 40, tricked the 26-year-old Monique Hunter into taking the labor-inducing drug Misoprostol. Using software to disguise her phone number, Jones convinced Hunter to collect the prescription drug Cycotec, which is used to treat stomach ulcers but also as an abortifacient, at a pharmacy. It is unclear how or why the pharmacy gave Hunter the drug.
But when Hunter immediately went into premature labor and gave birth, the baby survived, and was given care at a hospital.
Jones was also accused of attempted murder for then trying to kill the premature newborn with poisoned milk, before attempting to remove the baby from its ventilator while disguised as a hospital official. The baby is now reportedly in good health.
Defense lawyer Barry claimed that Hunter, who was having an affair with Jones’ husband, had taunted Jones with phone messages detailing a three-year affair and claiming Mr. Jones would soon abandon his wife.
Jones, 40, was also seven months pregnant with her fourth child at the time, and her lawyer claimed her action was out of keeping with her usual personality. “My client was in the last trimester of her pregnancy and was acting irrationally,” Turner told reporters. “I guess her hormones were out of whack.”
Jones will be sentenced to a maximum of four years in prison for the second-degree assault charge, part of a plea deal. The attempted murder charges were dropped.
