DELHI, India, June 21 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The Hindustan Times reports that the World Bank has expressed dissatisfaction with a population project underway in India whose prime goal is “reducing the birth rate.” “According to sources in the Health Department, the World Bank has made adverse remarks on three successive occasions about the project not being able to achieve its targets,” reports the article. The funding was to be pulled last August but an extension has been granted until June 30, 2001.
Apparently the Bank is concerned at the under-utilization of maternity homes, but the top listed goal of the project is birth reduction, so the bank’s concerns are being seen as reflective of a population control agenda. The World Bank repeatedly denies allegations that it supports population control in developing countries.
