Dear Readers,
More than a few times a year I receive suggestions to the effect that we should charge our readers a subscription fee. And we are confident that if we did so, there would be many readers who would gladly pay such a fee.
On the surface, this sounds like a sensible idea. With a guaranteed income for the year, we could have a large potion of our expenses covered, allowing us to plan for the future with a much clearer idea of our income.
But as attractive an idea as this sounds, there is no doubt in our minds that if put into action it would significantly hinder the primary reason LSN exists: to spread the Truth for ALL to hear.
You see, LSN doesn't exist only for the many pro-life and pro-family leaders who tell us that they could not run their ministries and organizations without the information we provide – though we are pleased that we can be of service to them.
Neither do we exist primarily for the tens of thousands of ordinary pro-life and pro-family individuals from around the world, who tell us that they come to us because we are the best site on the Internet for getting the facts about the ongoing global culture war – though we are thrilled that they find our service useful.
No, more than anything else, we exist to bring truth and clarity to the confused and to the searching.
We exist for those who have unthinkingly accepted the cant phrase that women must have the “right to choose,” because they have never been shown how this “right” actually hurts women and kills babies.
We exist for those who have blithely accepted contraceptives, euthanasia and embryonic stem cell research as positive and necessary things, because they have never encountered a compelling argument for the sanctity of all life.
We exist for those who believe in same-sex 'marriage' and the whole gamut of 'gay rights,' because the mainstream media has withheld from them the facts about how destructive the homosexual “lifestyle” is for those who engage in it, and for society as a whole.
And we exist for those who have been told their whole lives to ignore their consciences and to stay clear of the “controversial” issues so as to be accepted among the “normal” crowd.
If LSN were just another business, out to make a profit, then it might make sense to charge a subscription fee for our news. But we're not. LSN is, first and foremost, a mission of Truth. Our mission is not simply to motivate and strengthen the converted, but to also present the liberating gift of the truth to those who may never have had the opportunity to hear it.
But, if we were to go ahead and put up what in the news industry is called a “pay wall,” and require those who come to our site to pay a fee, it is almost certain that we would restrict our readership those who already agree with the pro-life and pro-family message, and that is unacceptable.
I wonder, for instance, what would have happened to that woman who last year came to our site searching for information about abortion, and who decided not to abort her child because she read our Abortion Methods page? Would her baby be alive today if she had been forced to pay to read that page? And what about the other 230,000 people who visited the abortion methods page last year alone? Who knows how many of them were similarly confused, pregnant mothers, who spared the life of their child after reading the truth about what abortion would do to their baby?
No, we simply cannot bring ourselves to restrict LSN's reporting only to those who can afford to, or who wish to pay for it.
Instead we have decided to place ourselves into your hands, and to trust in Providence to provide us with the means to continue offering our service to all.
For that reason, over these last two weeks we have been asking you to contribute to LSN, so that others will have a chance to hear a voice of Truth.
This is the primary reason that I started this campaign off by asking you to be a Hero. These people need you to sacrifice for them. And what better time to do so than during Lent.
