Opinion

September 25, 2012 (Bound4Life.com) – In California if you want a physician’s career without going to medical school, you can have one — if you specialize in abortion and birth control.

With a few strokes from his pro-abortion fingers, California governor Jerry Brown has helped to make it easier to kill babies than ever before in the state that already aborts more babies than any other in the nation.

Remember a few months ago when pro-lifers rejoiced that a bill in CA that would allow nurse practitioners, midwives and physicians assistants to do aspiration abortions was killed? Guess what? It was quietly resurrected, mildly revised to extend a current program, and slipped through the legislature where the governor signed it. According to the Sacramento Bee:

The bill extends until Jan. 1, 2014 a pilot program to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of allowing nurse practitioners, midwives and physician assistants to provide aspiration abortions.

Now, really, was a bill needed to evaluate the safety of people killing babies? I don’t need any sort of medical training to answer that one. It’s always unsafe because someone dies when the vacuum device is placed in the woman’s uterus.

A side question I have is what business does any midwife have in working to destroy the life she or he was trained to deliver? When did sucking a baby out of her momma become an action that anyone would ever consider part of a midwife’s potential duty? That anyone would think of such a thing is in itself a sign of the times.

But in case it wasn’t enough to let the local midwife kill the baby, Brown wanted to cover all the bases. In his continued effort to parent the residents of California, he also signed a bill that would make birth control access easier than ever—including hormonal birth control that many pro-lifers consider abortifacients. According to SFGate.com, AB 2348:

[A]llows registered nurses to dispense hormonal contraceptives such as the pill, patches, shots and rings. Supporters of the bill say doctors and nurse practitioners will now be freed-up to focus on more complex patient visits, according to Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood is delighted with AB 2348 because it expands current law to “allow RNs to utilize their skills and training and important role in community clinics to increase access to birth control by allowing them to dispense hormonal contraceptives based on standardized procedures.”

In one fell swoop, the governor of California has authorized two laws certain to take more lives while managing to eliminate the middle man—the physician—from the process. Most pro-aborts argue if abortion were no longer legal that people would just find a way to do them illegally with unqualified people—but the governor of California has now made that law. What was unthinkable before, a midwife doing abortions, is now legal. First we allow those who are not MDs to do abortions, then what? How far does the line go before it’s blurred beyond recognition and the only law is anarchy anyway?

California is on a path to find out.
