November 10, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) — American liberal media weren’t the only ones lamenting Donald Trump’s surprise victory, but the Toronto Star’s Rosie DiManno may well have trumped colleagues to the south in her epic expression of anguish.
Among DiManno’s observations is that “America is maddened,” that it “should be ashamed of itself,” and that the once great country it was “no longer exists. That country has ripped out its own guts.”
Trump’s victory is “a conspiracy — of racists and reactionaries, white supremacists, misogynists, Islamophobes and xenophobes, isolationists, sexual scavengers, haters,” wrote DiManno, emphasis in original.
“President Donald Trump? Jesus wept.”
Trump, she wrote, is a “narcissist with skin as thin as onion paper. A knuckle-dragger who doesn’t read, whose vulgarities are legend, who admires Vladimir Putin, who claims he’s smarter than all the generals in the Pentagon and will fire those who disagree,” and who “turned the election campaign into a scorched-earth rampage.”
In DiManno’s view, Hillary Clinton was a victim of this rampage.
Despite her “decades of public service, her fistful of bona fides — arguably, as President Barack Obama said, the most qualified candidate for the Oval Office in memory,” Clinton “was rejected in ways large and small, underperforming in a slew of states that she should have claimed easily, firmly rebuffed in states where she never had a chance.”
That Clinton might have lost because of her abortion extremism, her threats to religious freedom — she infamously stated Americans would have to forgo religious convictions if those opposed abortion — or because of revelations that her key advisers dismissed Catholic beliefs as backward and conspired to infiltrate the Church, didn’t seem to occur to DiManno.
Or maybe Clinton lost because Americans just didn’t trust her and her private email server.
But DiManno’s cri-de-coeur underscored a point made by CBC hockey commentator Don Cherry, although one cannot know whom he had in mind when he advised Americans unhappy with Trump’s win not to seek refuge in Canada.
“The left wing kook entertainers and the left wing weirdo’s in the media in the US have said if Trump wins the presidency they will move to Canada.,” Cherry tweeted Wednesday morning. “Please, we have enough of these type here now.”
