Last week’s Time Magazine expose, 6 Myths About Abortion, is part of the abortion industry’s rebranding effort, as they seek to move away from the always-false “pro-choice” language toward the more diabolically honest pro-abortion approach. Hence the need to do away with certain facts that are inconvenient for the pro-abortion crowd, recasting them as “myths.”

In examining the first “myth,” the claim that the Bible forbids abortion, author Katha Pollitt rather quickly betrays her actual intent — to get Christians to look away from the Bible:  “It shouldn’t matter what the Bible says about abortion…he [Jesus] said nothing about abortion. Neither did Saint Paul, or the other New Testament authors, or any of the later authors whose words were interpolated into the original texts.”

Not being a biblical scholar, Pollitt misses the most obvious Biblical admonition, actually a Commandment, that remains central for most of the civilized world, regardless of whether they consider the Bible for their moral direction: ‘Thou shalt not kill’ (Exodus 20:13). The taking of innocent life applies to unborn babies, those scientifically-recognized human beings at the earliest stage of life, as it does to the elderly or disabled. Abortion supporters, like Pollitt, struggle in error, embracing a Culture of Death rather than embracing “the sacred value of human life from its very beginning,” as Pope Saint John Paul II affirms in Evangelium vitae.

So who is creating a myth here? The objective person can now more clearly see what has been true for some time, the supporters of “choice” are now claiming that abortion is good. If you disagree, you’re promoting “myths.” In other words, “We, the People,” must accept their sad ideology: Murder, in order to allow their corrupt understanding of “freedom,” is good. The claim that they were just removing a “glob of cells” isn’t working any longer. The abortion industry still dominates one political party in this country, and almost always gets its way at the national level, though they have been losing at the state level for years. More importantly, they have been losing the battle for hearts and minds as more women and men suffer from abortion and as ultrasounds shout of the humanity of the unborn person for anyone with eyes to see. How can abortion, though legalized here in the United States for over 40 years, be anything but a lawless act against nature which forsakes an unborn child’s inalienable right to experience happiness in his or her pursuit to live, grow, and thrive?

What the “abortion is good” crowd is asking us is to ignore a natural sense of the good, embedded deep within our conscience that tells us what is right to do and wrong: “…I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people” (Jeremiah 31:33).

If it is not destroyed by propaganda from those who call evil good, and good, evil, our homing beacon brings us back to the truth: we must love, in accordance with the Natural Law and the Truth found in Scripture and Church teaching. Doing so leads to peace and harmony in relationship with a loving God and renews in us a respect for all life.

As the abortion industry, with the help of a sympathetic and corrupt media, continues to reinvent its agenda, we need to proclaim all the louder that all life is a gift that cannot be taken away unjustly. Killing an innocent person is wrong – within the womb and out of the womb. It was always wrong.
