(LifeSiteNews) — If President Donald Trump wants to continue his valiant fight against wokeness, he should vigorously oppose abortion and the LGBT agenda.

As president, Trump rightly signed an executive order banning the use of divisive critical race theory by the federal government. He also prohibited gender confused individuals from serving in the military.

Trump has now pledged to sign a law prohibiting the chemical and surgical mutilation of minors if he is reelected. Trump has also promised to defund schools that push “transgender insanity.”

“Together we’re on a mission to take back our schools from the Marxists and Communists and the radical-left maniacs who are hellbent on indoctrinating our children,” Trump said in an August video.

Even if he cannot exactly accomplish everything he promised, he is at least correct in his worldview.

But he can do more to continue his fight against wokeness, starting with abortion.

Abortion is woke. It flows from feminist thought, which says women need abortion (and contraception) to be truly free. Abortion is ultimately about attacking the family and undermining the natural roles of men and women by killing their children. It is part of sexual wokeness, or the idea that society must adapt to whatever people say is true about their own sexuality.

Sexual wokeness, discussed further here, pushes ideas like “gender unicorns,” “preferred pronouns,” and that women can be men.

On many of these issues, Trump is correct – he opposes gender ideology in the schools and men competing against women in sports.

However, by largely staying away from the abortion issue, and by saying he supports “reproductive rights,” he allows the woke feminists to win.

Abortion undermines the natural design for women to have children by unnaturally killing the human life inside them. The surgical and chemical mutilation of individuals, which Trump opposes at least for minors, operates in the same way: it tries to manipulate God’s design to fit the disordered views of gender activists.

While many of the gender activists are in the liberal Democrat camp, Trump has unfortunately allowed their influence to extend into the Republican Party.

After all, it was Trump, along with family members like daughter-in-law Lara Trump, who watered down the GOP platform on life and human sexuality. The shortened 2024 version dropped the prior statement that “(t)raditional marriage and family, based on marriage between one man and one woman, is the foundation for a free society.”

The watering down of the platform drew praise from the Log Cabin Republicans who dismissed the views of conservative Christians. (Check out the excellent work of Doug Mainwaring to learn more about the influence of LGBT activists on the conservative movement).

“Log Cabin Republicans have been working for decades to help build a more inclusive GOP and update the platform’s outdated and out-of-step language… Today, that hard work has finally come to fruition.,” the homosexual activist group wrote in July.

Inclusive of what? The problem with Trump’s view, and that of the Log Cabin Republicans, is that they believe you can take just parts of the LGBT agenda and not get the whole package. “LGBT conservatives [sic] are more determined than ever before to help the GOP fight the radical gender ideology of the Democratic Party,” the group wrote.

How? How can you be “transgender” but also ready to fight transgender ideology? How can you believe two men are equivalent to a man and a woman? That is radical gender ideology.

Their thinking is probably like this: “People today probably don’t care if they have two gay neighbors. What they really care about is kids being sexualized in the schools. As long as we oppose the really bad stuff aimed at minors, we can support the other stuff with adults. After all, two men being in a long-term relationship is conservative!”

Of course, that is wrong on two levels.

One, it isn’t wrong to surgically and chemically mutilate kids because they are kids. It is wrong to do so because it is a form of lying to them and can destroy their reproductive abilities. A gender-confused 17 year old boy won’t be any more a woman at age 19  than he was two years prior.

Second, you cannot have just parts of the LGBT agenda. When the state correctly refuses to recognize two men or two women as a “marriage,” it is easier for a public school to reject the LGBT agenda. But once the state says that two men or two women must be recognized as a “marriage,” it only follows the public schools will begin teaching kids about homosexuality in a positive light.

Trump can fight wokeness, but the battle starts by being outspokenly pro-life.

He took a small but good step when he criticized Florida’s radical Amendment 4, a measure that would legalize abortion through all nine months of pregnancies. He can do more by speaking out in favor of restricting abortion wherever possible, but through the state and by pledging to do what he can at the federal level to end abortion.

If he wants to fight wokeness, the President also must distance himself from the LGBT activists within the Republican Party and commit to a complete repudiation of their agenda.
