April 28, 2014 (LiveActionNews) – Voice of Choice sent out a tweet, arguing that abortion should remain legal, for the safety of women.

But when you take a look at the graphic photo Voice of Choice included in the tweet, it’s obvious that abortion is not at all “safe.”

That baby is 10 weeks old. Several of his organs are clearly visible, even in this bloody photo of his tiny remains. His heart was beating – ever since he was 22 days old. His brain waves were detectable ever since he was six weeks old. Baby Center, a website that explains fetal development to new parents, describes the incredible development of a 10-week-old unborn baby:

[Y]our baby has now completed the most critical portion of his development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature.

He’s swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including his kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they’ll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy.

If you could take a peek inside your womb, you’d spot minute details, like tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin.

In other developments: Your baby’s limbs can bend now. His hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his heart, and his feet may be long enough to meet in front of his body. The outline of his spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from his spinal cord. Your baby’s forehead temporarily bulges with his developing brain…

This baby is very visibly human. (Of course, our humanity attaches to us at the moment we are conceived – when we receive the DNA sequence that is unique to us and begin our lives as new individuals.) Killing innocent human beings should be a crime – and indeed, it is at almost every other stage of human life. Only unborn babies are subjected to pulverizing, suctioning, ripping, smashing, poisoning, and burning at the will of their parents and at the hand of medical professionals. In any other situation, such actions would be the height of violent, premeditated murder, complete with torture.

When else does a civilized society argue that, if a person is going to be cruelly killed anyway, we might as well make the actions of their killer as safe as possible? And when else do we define an action that ends with a bloody dead baby as “safe”?

Of course, Voice of Choice also failed to disclose that abortion rates do not stay the same when abortion is made illegal. There are no facts backing up a claim that abortion is equally prevalent, regardless of the state of the laws. I’ve previously dedicated an entire article to debunking the myth that banning abortion will not decrease abortion rates. Hop over here to read it.

In modern society, abortion is never necessary to save a mother’s life. (For the record, chemotherapy, removal of ectopic pregnancies, and other life-saving medical treatments are not abortions.) An abortion doctor, Don Sloan, admitted that abortion is a “purely elective” procedure:

“The idea of abortion to save the mother’s life is something that people cling to because it sounds noble and pure – but medically speaking, it probably doesn’t exist. It’s a real stretch of our thinking. Abortions…can be seen as always purely elective – not necessary from a medical standpoint.” – Abortion: A Doctor’s Perspective A Woman’s Dilemma by Don Sloan, M.D. with Paula Hart, page 60

So no, making a precious 10-week-old baby look like a bloody, torn mess is not “safer” for women. It’s cruel, wrong, and uncivilized. Especially when that same baby should be allowed to grow and live for the rest of his life – inside and outside the womb.
