January 22, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – Alberta's bishops are taking what seems an unprecedented stand against 'gender ideology' in Canadian Catholic schools. And, of course, they’re receiving the expected flak for it, not only from secular media, but even from trustees and the board chair in a Catholic school board.

Despite this, the bishops have individually and collectively stated their unwavering commitment to Catholic teaching on the male/female binary created by God. They have unambiguously stated that Catholic schools will not be using the NDP’s problematic transgender guidelines to form policy.

“The Bishops of Alberta are of one mind on this issue. The principles underlying and informing the guidelines offered by the Government are not congruent with fundamental Catholic doctrine pertaining to the meaning of the human person as created by God,” said Edmonton Archbishop Richard Smith, who is currently in India, to LifeSiteNews via email.

“Therefore, we cannot adopt them as guidelines for the formulation of policy; to do so would be inconsistent with our very Catholic identity, which permeates all aspects of the life of a Catholic school,” he said.

Catholics and all people of good will across Canada, but especially those in Alberta, owe these heroic bishops a huge “thank you” for standing up for revealed truth in Catholic education and for assuring parents that their Catholic children will be formed by genuine Catholic teaching, not by secular ideology.
