“Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.”

– Dietrich Bonhoeffer

May 6, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – These chilling words came from a Lutheran theologian in Nazi Germany who was martyred at age thirty-nine for his outspoken convictions.  At that time most Protestants thought he was too outspoken.  With the lens of history, seventy-one years later, he is praised for his courage, faith and outspoken character.

Where are the outspoken Protestants today? While there are some valiantly speaking out against abortion, the gay lifestyle, LGBT issues, and sin, the vast majority seem to have lost their voice for the truth. Why has this happened?  The explanation is more transparent than most would imagine.

Protestantism in America has become the voice of the sixties radicals calling for peace and justice.  The present leaders in many Protestant denominations are the very ones protesting the Vietnam war, justice, and calling for a freer sexual lifestyle.  They were called the “Hippies.”  Sadly they have not gone away, they just have gotten older.

Today, these liberal Protestant leaders claim that abortion is an issue of women’s health. The truth is that abortion is a convenient way to eliminate mistakes and unwanted disruptions to life.  They have turned a blind eye to the truth that the baby in the womb is a human baby, made in the image of God, from the moment of conception.  These apostate Christian leaders will be held accountable for their actions when they are make to bow at the feet of Jesus Christ.

Some of these Protestant leaders have successfully lobbied for church offering dollars to go to men and women who want transgendered assignment surgery. Their compassion for those sexually confused is anything but compassion. It is mutilation of the human body and a suicide rate that is shocking.  They again will have to explain their misguided and evil beliefs before the King of Kings.

Too many of these Protestant denominations and leaders have embraced the gay lifestyle and gay “marriage” as a discrimination issue.  Not only do they embrace this lifestyle with its high HIV transmission but invite leaders of the gay community to speak at Christian youth conventions perpetuating this misguided lifestyle.

If they do not repent, they will not find Jesus calling them home at the end of their lives.

In truth you could not recognize these leaders and denominations from most of the liberal social welfare and advocacy groups in America.   The real tragedy is that they are pushing this anti-biblical view in the name of Jesus Christ. This makes these leaders one thousand times more guilty and accountable.  The Bible has strict warning against speaking presumptively on behalf of the Lord.

In James 3:1 we read:

Let not many of you become teachers, my brethren, knowing that as such we will incur a stricter judgment.

Every Christian leader, both Protestant and Roman Catholic, should shudder before these words.  If the Bible insists that we will be held accountable for “every idle word” (Matthew 12:36), imagine how we will be held accountable for deliberately misusing the truth and the name of Jesus Christ.
