(LifeSiteNews) — Today marks the 10th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s Obergefell v. Hodges decision which instituted same-sex “marriage” across the land. That day, June 26, 2015, unleashed unforeseen, untold harm on the nation.
Children – who have no voice in political, legislative, and judicial matters – have been Obergefell’s silent victims.
Here’s a partial list:
- Obergefell was based on an incorrect notion that sexual orientation is an immutable trait. It is not. There is absolutely no scientific basis for that assertion. It is a lie, but a popular one, and the Supreme Court helped crystalize and enshrine that lie in U.S. law.
- One day after the Obergefell ruling was published, LGBT activists turned on a dime, and their organizations and efforts which up until then had been devoted solely to advocating for “gay marriage,” suddenly had a new mission: the promotion of transgender rights.
- Religious liberty has been undermined through Obergefell:
Religious adoption and foster agencies, and prospective adoptive and foster parents, have been discriminated against because they refuse to bow down to the re-definition of marriage and reject the “transing” of kids. They have been deemed to be unfit parents because they refuse to call boys, “girls,” and girls, “boys,” and object to using incorrect pronouns. - With so called same-sex “marriage,” a vast new lucrative market for surrogacy opened up, bringing with it multiple evils:
-
- The commodification of children. Children could now be bought and sold.
- Women serving as surrogates are treated as nothing more than “breeders.” Same sex-marriage has produced the greatest movement toward misogyny the world has ever witnessed.
- Kids are now created through medical engineering with the intention of being denied either a mother or a father.
- Along with surrogacy comes IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). For every one embryo created and brought to term, 11 others are treated as nothing more than medical waste. Children are being tossed away as medical waste.
Through Obergefell, the immutable definition of marriage – which was revered by every religion and society around the world for millennia – was undone, doing untold damage.
We now have a rising generation of young adults who have never known the real definition of marriage – the timeless truth about the complementarity of man and woman.
Young adults now believe marriage is anything anyone wants it to be, thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court’s awful ruling on June 26, 2015.
Lets face it: the Supreme Court took a sledgehammer to the bedrock of society. Worst of all, by eviscerating the definition of marriage and the understanding of the Gospel, evangelization has been hindered.
Marriage can’t be “redefined” because it is one thing and one thing only: the union of a man and a woman as a great foreshadowing of Christ and His Bride, the Church.
To allow this massive effort in the United States and around the globe to un-define both marriage and human sexuality to continue unimpeded is to cooperate with Satan – the Father of Lies – in his titanic effort to enlist the whole world in mocking and obscuring the eternal, heavenly reality of Christ and His Bride.
Despite its manifold negative impacts, same-sex “marriage” serves one ultimate purpose: to ridicule, obscure, and bury the truth about Christ’s relationship with the Church. It is Satan’s very public expression of his contempt for Christ and His Bride, representing his disdain and loathing for God’s plan since before the beginning of time.
A collection of human activists or social engineers – the liberal elites who hold power over government, academia, media, the tech world, and global corporations – seeking to promote the universal acceptance of same-sex “marriage” as equivalent to conjugal marriage would have had no hope of achieving their goal. No one individual or coalition could have masterminded such a brilliant, devastating campaign.
But Satan, the Father of Lies, with our cooperation – whether willful or passive – has instituted such a plot and brought it to fruition, enlisting men and women – including five U.S. Supreme Court justices in June 2015 – to embrace a lie, all the while fooling them into believing they are on a righteous quest, on the right side of justice, on the “right side of history.”
Marriage, the real thing, remains under siege because it stands at the heart of the Good News of the Gospel.
For me, the battle is personal, rooted in my faith in Jesus Christ and His Church
Despite being same-sex attracted – or more likely because I am same-sex attracted – I marvel at the extraordinary significance of marriage in God’s eternal plan.
I’m certain I would not have invested my life in understanding the beauty of creation, natural law, complementarity, and marriage if I had not had to deal with same-sex attraction. Most likely, I would view marriage as most of the rest of the world does: as nothing more than mere tradition; ordinary, mundane and, perhaps, utterly expendable.
I might have thrown it away, as I once tried to do.
But God in His mercy toward me has used that which the world once said was a curse – an abomination deserving death and which it now decrees should be enshrined, celebrated, and venerated – as a means to lead me closer to Him.
The world is at enmity with God. It lies to those of us who are same-sex attracted telling us there is no happiness available to us in complementarity; that we are doomed to a life of unhappiness unless we can convince the rest of humanity to abandon the unique significance of complementarity, and that we will remain unsatisfied, unfulfilled, and offended until it is eviscerated from human experience. The world seeks to assuage this fabricated “offense,” this pretension, and chooses instead to offend God by rejecting the riches He has provided us in complementarity.
Same-sex attraction is what led me to God. It’s what made my heart cry out to God. It made me recognize that I need God daily. It made this hard-hearted, self-sufficient soul who had rejected God, sinful from birth, recognize that my soul had a deep hunger that could not be satisfied by the world or anything this world provides. It made me recognize that I have a soul, created by God and for God, and it is His love – Divine Love – that my heart seeks more than anything else.
On my own, I would have chosen to be one of the sophisticates of the world, embracing the world’s wisdom and using my same-sex attraction to lord it over others and define for them the world as I thought it should be.
In that way, I would have rejected, not only for myself but for all others, our place in the cosmos. But thanks to God’s intervention in my life and the very real power of His Cross that has set me free from so many strongholds in my mind; and to the Church and to many brothers and sisters – in my own parish and around the world – whose faith is a constant witness and encouragement to me; and to the many saints who have gone before and inspired me, I see that as folly now.
I am no longer lost, looking to carve out a place for myself in the world, looking to shoehorn my way in by making those around me reject the beauty of the absolute truth of complementarity.
I know exactly where I fit in the cosmos: I was created male, and no matter my predilections, I can look beyond those to understand that I am created to give myself fully not to another male, but to a woman – my wife.
