“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you” – Jeremiah 1:5

May 6, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – Isn’t the fact that God had a plan for each of us prior to our conception truly astounding?

Every minute of our life, every breath we draw, every decision we make and action we take, plays into that plan.

We may not think regularly about this, and if we do, do we truly grasp it?

Our mothers play a miraculous part in God’s plan, and not just because they provide safe harbor for unborn life before giving birth. This is certainly miraculous, but mothers also offer a living, consistent reminder of His plan for us.

Moms, our conduit to the world, our best cheerleaders for childhood activities, academics and all we undertake in life, our caregivers when we’re sick or otherwise hurt by life, our soft places to land and our motivators; moms also shape our course toward salvation.

She doesn’t just want to see us do well in the spelling bee, mom also has a stake in our getting to Heaven.

And it’s not necessarily exhibited in the spectacular, but rather in the ordinary.

Through the simple care given in the day-to-day, and in striving for what’s best for their children, each day mothers mirror both our Blessed Mother as Christ’s vessel into the world and also His sacrifice on the cross for us.

Something seemingly small like getting after us to shape up is sanctification, an effort to make us our best selves before God.

Mom doesn’t just want us to reflect well on her. No, in helping the Lord give us our life, and in loving us as a mom does through that life, our mothers certainly want us to have it eternally, just as the Father does.

What a beautiful and magnificent role God has given mothers!

It is my regular prayer that the millions and millions of mothers deprived of this role because of abortion will one day be reconciled with their children in heaven. If they are, they’ll truly know firsthand the Lord had a plan for their child.

The full verse from Jeremiah 1:5 is:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Each of those three phrases bear out that every human created by God has purpose.

I’m praying this Mother’s Day in thanks for all mothers, including my own, and with gratitude for God’s blessing me with this most vital role in his plan.

I pray as well, for our world’s return to abundant regard for His gift of life, and, in the meantime, for comfort for every mother who has lost a child, whether born or pre-born, and peace in the knowledge their child is in God’s hands.

Have a happy and blessed Mother’s Day!
