LOS ANGELES (LifeSiteNews) — Loyola Marymount University (LMU) is a prestigious, Jesuit-run institution that claims to uphold the tenets of the Catholic faith all while promoting social justice for all that enter. Unfortunately, as I discovered on November 5 of this year, that was simply not the case.
As I was told by Will Donahue, a student leader and the chapter president of the California College Republicans at LMU, the institution has completely gone against the principles it was founded on.
Recently, a feminist student organization called LMU Women in Politics hosted an on-campus fundraiser for Planned Parenthood, the leading provider of abortions and contraception.
In response, Donahue and the California College Republicans hosted a protest in which many were invited to pray the rosary for the souls of the unborn and for the conversion of pro-abortion organizations and activists. Hundreds of Catholics and pro-lifers joined in the peaceful protest. Pro-life sidewalk counselors spoke to confused women who were contemplating abortions.
Unfortunately, a small group of pro-abortion activists came along and harassed the protesters. They said very vile things to us, some of which I cannot repeat. One thing I heard often was that the protesters should have been aborted. Another claim was that unborn babies are not alive. The oddest part of this was that these were coming out of the mouths of Catholic students.
LMU, a so-called Catholic university, is allowing students to believe that abortion is acceptable by allowing Planned Parenthood to come on campus. This is hypocrisy at its absolute finest.
I am reminded of when Our Lord directly addressed the Pharisees and pointed out their many faults: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for you yourselves do not enter in and those that are going in, you suffer not to enter” (Matthew 23:13).
Thankfully, I also was able to see how many true Catholics were able to come together at the protest to promote life and stand up to the wickedness of abortion.
Several different entities, including the Knights of Columbus, TFP Student Action, America Needs Fatima, Church Militant, and others were there and carried on in a spirit of prayer. It was a truly encouraging experience overall and I hope that others are inspired to stand up for the faith as I was on that day.
