October 10, 2013 (Everyday Life For Canada)By now, you may have heard the news that Astral Drive Elementary School, in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, decided to no longer celebrate Mother's Day. And to be fair they will do the same with Father's Day.

This misguided idea is fully backed by the Ministry of Education. No doubt other provinces will follow this madness in an effort to be politically correct and “inclusive.” The school has decided that they must not discriminate against those children who don't come from traditional families. The province's Education Minister Ramona Jennex pointed out that some children who have lost a mom or a dad or come from non-traditional families may feel isolated and left out. This is hardly the whole story. More about this later.

So what's the solution? Don't celebrate Mother and Father's Day. Expunge the traditional family from the daily lexicon. Instead, celebrate the International Day of Families. This is an umbrella term made up by the United Nations to promote the new “legally” created family structures now recognized in a number of western countries. For this, we can thank the United Nations. These new “family” arrangements may include single-parents, two men, two women, a man and two women, a woman and two men and the list goes on. It all depends on what the law allows. In Ontario, these structures are legally possible. The United Nations describes the International Day of Families as “an occasion to celebrate connections among all members of the constellation that makes up a family.” In English, this means that homosexual “families” must be recognized and normalized. If this takes the exclusion of and discrimination against traditional families, then it must be done in the name of “inclusive and diversity education.”

To mark the International Day of Families, the Astral Drive Elementary celebrated by having the children write the names of people who have supported them in their lives. All the names submitted were then hung on a large tree in the gymnasium. We wonder, if the children wrote the words mother and father, were these words changed to parent A or parent B or to a significant other in order to keep with the theme of “diversity” education? All this may sound like a good idea when it's detached from reality and promoted with politically correct language. But it's completely wrong because what the school has done is neither honest nor democratic. It's also bad thinking. Since a few students, the minority to be accurate, may not come from traditional families with a biological father and a mother, then why force all students to pretend that they don't have a mother and a father? How is this just and truly “inclusive?” It's actually exclusionary to children coming from traditional families.

What the school has done is to try to stop the children, the parents and society from thinking about motherhood and fatherhood and traditional families by removing the words from the language of the day. Why? Because by dropping the words that we use to record, to think and mark important aspects of our lives, we will no longer be able to talk about and live out the actions that the words represent. Language records how we think, act and feel. Language matters. So, when the school tries to change the meaning or even delete words like mother, father and family from daily use, they're also changing the students' thoughts and behaviors. This is not education, but “legal” brainwashing. It's political propaganda.

In the 2006 census data recorded by Statistics Canada, there were 1.5 million single-parent families in the country. That's just 8% of all the families. Same-sex couples accounted for less than one tenth of 1%. Many media outlets reported this as a number rather than as a percentage to make it sound and look larger. However, this fact hasn't stopped either governments nor school boards from pushing a change in how Canadians think about the family, human sexuality, the person, motherhood and fatherhood. The very low number of same-sex couples show that this political agenda has no basis in democracy; its not morally right nor educationally sound. Like it or not, the traditional family continues to shape our society. One may disagree with this, but it doesn't alter anything.

The decision to celebrate non-traditional families is a political idea that excludes traditional ones.. Of course society and schools should be supportive of all students, but at the same time we cannot deny the evidence and pretend that it's otherwise. All the emotional appeals in the world should not stop any school from using the words and celebrating the meaning of motherhood, fatherhood and the traditional family. Certainly same-sex couples can be loving and good, but their children still come from the biological union of a man and a woman or at the very minimum the union of the sperm and the egg. And if these set ups are celebrated, are children then products to be bought and sold like a pizza, or a pair of shoes, to any person or group wishing to be a “family”? Mommy and mommy alone or daddy and daddy alone biologically cannot have a child or pretend that this union is just like the traditional family. It's not. It's a “legal” or chosen union. Let's be honest. Let's tell children the truth. And it's still the truth regardless of how many different cards Hallmark creates for “Mother and Father's Day” cards for same-sex couples.

Parents shouldn't pay attention to these social engineering policies coming from the United Nations and being thoughtlessly implemented by the Canada's Ministries of Education and their school boards. This is to a large extent politically driven. Government institutions have no right to co-parent our children. Children aren't a means to an end and cannot be viewed as objects. Parents have the right to direct the education of their children, and if the majority of parents or even the minority want to celebrate Father and Mother's Day, they ought to be able to so without being excluded or discriminated against. If it's all about being “inclusive and diverse”… then why exclude traditional families … or is the real agenda to eliminate the traditional family, as the communists and fascists always planned to do?… Happy Mother's Day!… Happy Father's Day! The truth will set us free.
