Bishop Athanasius Schneider of Kazakhstan has issued an urgent call to Catholics around the world to pray for Pope Francis.

In a video released this week, Bishop Schneider urged Catholics "to pray for our Holy Father, whom we love, that he may have the courage to speak with the same clarity and with the same courage as Christ spoke, as Peter spoke.”

Bishop Schneider said he believes that the Church is in a time of "crisis," with growing confusion on core teachings, especially on life and family isses. “It is not a secret," he said. "It is very evident. A lot of people, the simple faithful, are suffering because of the situation of confusion.”

The bishop said he believes it is “very urgent” that the pope “states more clearly, in a very unambiguous manner — in such a manner which will not leave any space for misinterpretations — [on] the issues of family and the sacredness of marriage.”

As the Vicar of Christ on earth, tasked with steering the Church founded by Christ, the Holy Father is the prime target of the Evil One, and needs our prayers more than any other man.

Christ Himself was clear that humble, insistent prayer is the most powerful spiritual weapon at our disposal, especially in conjunction with fasting. Therefore, join Bishop Schneider, and countless Catholics around the world, in pledging to pray for Pope Francis every single day, and to fast for him to the extent that your health and state in life permit.
