CHICAGO, September 8, 2016 (LifeSiteNews) – A woman who nine-months pregnant when she was shot in the stomach on Labor Day has given birth to a healthy baby.

Crystal Meyers, 23, was sitting on the porch of the home she shares with her boyfriend, 24-year-old Albert Moore, and his grandparents on Monday afternoon, when a gunman fired nine shots. One bullet struck Moore’s neck, seriously wounding him.

Meyers was also shot through the stomach and leg, leaving her bloody body motionless on the floor.

Authorities rushed the pair to Stroger Hospital and delivered their baby, who was not due until September 30.

Doctors say the baby, who was nearly full-term, is healthy and doing well.

The child’s grandfather, Tyler Thomas, told the Chicago Sun-Times, “The baby is doing good.”

Meyers and Moore’s conditions have not been reported since Tuesday night, when they were reportedly both in critical condition.

Violence has haunted Chicago, especially their Back of the Yards neighborhood on the city’s south side.

A total of 65 people were shot and 13 killed over Labor Day weekend alone, including an 80-year-old man who was shot in the face. Although Chicago has some of the nation’s strictest gun control laws, the city has racked up a total of 90 murders in August – the bloodiest month in 20 years – a toll that has excedeed 500 murders so far this year.

The survival of Baby Meyers is a welcome reminder that death doesn’t always win, even on earth.
