In videos released Tuesday by Catholic News Service, Cardinals Raymond Burke and Walter Kasper detail their competing views on admitting civilly 'remarried' Catholics to Communion.
Cardinal Burke is clearly astounded: “These are bishops and these are shepherds of the flock, … who are Catholic. And I can’t imagine them accepting this proposal. To me it would be something, I don’t know how I would be able to digest it.”
Cardinal Kasper, on the other hand, seems more concerned about not offending people than upholding Church teaching: “If you tell people who live in this way, and they do it in a responsible way, to tell them that’s adultery, permanent adultery, I think they would feel insulted and offended.”
