Why are pro-lifers so obsessed with Planned Parenthood, when abortion “only” represents three percent of its activities? That bit of creative math and blatant deception is found in every discussion of abortion funding in the United States. Now a new video explains why the “three percent” statistic is deliberately evasive.

Students for Life of America (SFLA) produced the short video that explains how the nation's largest abortion provider reaches this prized statistic by unbundling services and double counting (e.g., one year's birth control prescription represents 12 separate monthly “services”).

SFLA examines Planned Parenthood's own numbers from a recent annual report. Planned Parenthood received $540.6 million in tax dollars, performed 327,166 abortions in 2012. It provided a total of 348,869 services for pregnant women: Abortion, prenatal care (19,506), and adoption referrals (2,197).

That means abortion constitutes 93.78 percent of all its services for pregnant women.

If abortion “care” really only represented three percent of its services, why are Planned Parenthood facilities saying they must close down due to lost profits after states pass tighter health and safety regulations against abortion? This explains why some have called the “three percent” statistic the most meaningless abortion statistic ever.

With this kind of deceptive statistical manipulation, it makes you wonder what other creative accounting Planned Parenthood engages in.
