Anyone who’s seen an installment of the Austin Powers franchise knows that “shag” is British slang for sexual intercourse. Fewer probably know that it’s also the name of a “sex-positive” student group at the University of Georgia.
The Sexual Health Advocacy Group (SHAG) promotes “safer” recreational sex, offering free condoms and STD tests to fellow students, as well as “advocacy” aimed at “empowering individuals to be in control of their sexuality.”
The College Fix reported that SHAG recently took a field trip to Atlanta, where they attended a regional meeting of transvestites, participated in a three-hour indoctrination session at Planned Parenthood, and finished up with a visit to a sex toy shop that also moonlights as a gay hookup joint, or “jack shack.”
According to an invitation obtained by The College Fix, the organizers wrote, “our morning will start off with a regional cross dressers support group meeting … followed by a three-hour reproductive justice training at Planned Parenthood, and conclude with a stop at Inserection adult store.” To sweeten the deal, they advertised, “A pizza lunch will be provided!”
According to The College Fix, 17 students and one University Health Center employee carpooled to Atlanta, about an hour-and-a-half from the university’s Athens campus, for the sex-themed pilgrimage.
Thomas Jackson Jr., vice president for public affairs at UGA, defended the trip, telling the The College Fix the trip was academically valuable.
“As future health educators and counselors, they study and learn about a wide range of matters so as to gain accurate information and learn best practices in providing health education and counseling to the public,” Jackson said in an email. “The visit to Planned Parenthood and an adult store was chosen by the students so that they might get an understanding of the types of issues with which they’ll be working as future health educators and counselors.”
Since we all know that Planned Parenthood’s idea of “reproductive justice” is “abortion on demand and without apology,” I won’t belabor the point here – you can imagine for yourself what these young students were told by the SHAG alumnus who now works for the abortion giant.
But while Inserection (tagline: “Sexual Revolution!”) is advertised as an adult toy shop, it’s actually much more than that. It was featured last year in an article on popular Atlanta “glory holes” (TIP: if you don’t know what that means, don’t Google it) on gay website “Project Q Atlanta.”
Project Q described Inserection as a “two-floor, multi-room venue with its own entrance, a lounge and more [pornographic] video booths than anywhere else.” The “lounge” includes sofas, beds and other soft surfaces for semi-anonymous hook-ups. Men in their 30s and 40s wander the place in search of casual homosexual encounters.
Yes, this upstanding establishment was a stop on a field trip for teenagers and young adults on an “academic” field trip.
LifeSiteNews reached out to the University to ask whether any school funds or resources were used to support SHAG or facilitate their scandalous field trip.
Stan Jackson, Director of Student Affairs Communications & Marketing Initiatives replied, “The Sexual Health Advocacy Group (SHAG) has not received university funding, nor utilized student activities fees. Our business office does maintain an ‘agency account’ for them, an account with which student organizations (there are more than 600 registered student organizations on our campus) may manage their own money. No withdrawals have been made from their account to this point.”
Jackson added, “University funds were not used for the group’s recent field trip.”
