You know a narrative is dead when a live audience literally laughs at a female Democratic candidate accusing a male opponent of engaging in a “War Against Women.” Which is exactly what happened in a recent debate between Congressman Tom Reed of New York and his opponent, Martha Robertson.

In 2012 and 2013, Democrats rode the dishonest “War on Women” narrative to victories in the Senate, the presidency, and the Virginia governor's mansion. While the exact phrase has largely disappeared this year, it has shown its colors in other ways, such as the factually challenged ads run by NARAL against Colorado Senate candidate Congressman Cory Gardner.

Like Reed, however, Gardner has overcome the attacks, and seems poised to win his race. And Democrats aren't just seeing their efforts fall flat in these two races — new polling shows that Democrats have the support of unmarried women by a mere five points. This is compared to a 36-point victory among single women by President Obama in his 2012 re-election race, who also lost married women, married men, and single men.

As LifeSiteNews readers know, the “War on Women” was always a farce designed to gain voters for Democratic candidates for office. Gardner avoided it by rapidly changing positions on access to birth control and his support for a state personhood amendment, and Virginia Senate candidate Ed Gillespie (who is likely to lose his race today) dodged the charge by deftly avoiding a “gotcha” question from incumbent Mark Warner.

Who would have thought American women care about things besides free contraception and abortion? Not Democratic strategists, apparently.
