Washington, DC adds transgender option for driver’s licenses. And it’s totally illegal

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 28, 2017 (LifeSiteNews) – Washington, D.C. just began allowing residents to list their gender as 'X' on their driver's licenses to accommodate people who think they are genderless.

But the REAL ID Act, which was passed after 9/11 and enacted in 2005, "specifically requires gender on each driver’s license and identification card issued to a person by a state," Judicial Watch explained. The law "prohibits federal agencies from accepting for official purposes licenses and identification cards that do not meet these standards."

The person's gender must be listed on "each driver’s license and identification card issued to a person by the state," according to the law.

Councilmember Brianne Nadeau of ward 1 introduced the legislation. Oregon is the only other place in the U.S. where people are able to obtain "gender-neutral" driver's licenses.

"The famously corrupt local government surrounding the nation’s capital is offering gender-neutral driver’s licenses, even though it violates federal law," Judicial Watch noted.

"Gender is a spectrum and some of our residents do not identify as male or female," Nadeau said in her reasoning for introducing the legislation. "Current licenses force residents to conform to genders that don’t accurately reflect their identity. This has not only a practical impact but also a deeply negative emotional and mental health impact."

Maybe the old licenses didn't "accurately reflect" gender confusion, but at least they accurately reflected reality.

Nadeau voted against legalizing assisted suicide in the district twice.
